Hey guys, so i've noticed that for the past few years the Harvest Moon series hasn't been that great. Their just something missing that made the series so loved..........or more like something taken out. Something that hasent been asked for a while is, what made the series so great?

Some would say the characters as each game has a great cast to hang with for the game. Others would say the world you can explore as each is filled with great lore of old myths and just has a great feel overall. However, I believe the best part of Harvest Moon is a part that has been tossed out long ago. That part is.........the simplicity of the game.

To further explain, Harvest Moon now and days have been getting more and more complex with its story. Which may not seem bad, but that can take away quiet a bit of what made the game so fun. 1 thing is the farming. Farming in the SNES version was hard work. We started small and we felt every bit of it. We had to work to make our farm look clean and prosperous. But in newer versions farming is made much easier and theirs less farm cleaning, which may sound good but takes away what was great about the game.

Yes it was hard work but after we made great progress we felt very accomplished as our hard work was beginning to pay off. Now we can plant rows of crops in just a second. Which is no hardwork and takes away the fun of farming. Their are some upsides with being able to build more buildings on your land with blueprints, but even that cant hardly save the gameplay.

And then we have the story. Harvest Moon dosent need a save the world story. Harvest Moon SNES was about a journey of a young man becoming an adult and working hard to make a living and to prove himself. He made plenty of friends along the way, and even found true love. And at the end all of his hard work had paid off and all of the struggle was well worth it. Thats all the story it needed because it was so satisfying. Now we have fairys that need help or else all of the crops will die and the town would be gone ect ect. Which isn't really needed for the game Harvest Moon was.

Its not bad to keep in touch with myths and legends along the way of your journey, they add a great fantasy element. But haveing that be your main story, it just takes away more from the game then it adds. As a final note the games have both positives and negatives. I just wish one day they will go back to their roots and give us a true love note to the original game. Hopefully one day.
