Pokeumans: Chapter 17

Chapter 17

Because of the urgency of the trip, Andy, West, and Claire were treated to a private breakfast before the break of dawn. They felt kind of tired and groggy, but when they remembered the mission and everything at stake, they felt their energy return to full charge. Josh also ate with them, too, but he was kind of reserved and didn't talk much.

Xander came rushing in to the mess hall and approached the group. "Hang on a sec!" he gasped. "I forgot to give you something very important!" He opened his hand and held out four rings. Andy recognized them quickly.

"Hey!" Andy cried. "I know those! They're humanizing rings!"

"That's right!" Xander dumped them on the table. "You can't go around the world as Pokemon. You need correct disguises." He distributed them among the group. "Claire, West, I need you two to ask Andy and Josh about these before you try them on. They've had experience with these. There's also a car out front for you guys, but Josh is the only one that can drive it. Best of luck." He turned and left from the room.

When they finished breakfast, they were equipped with their backpacks, and entered into the hallway. They climbed up the steps, and before entering outside, they slipped the rings on. They did find some people at the rock, but the group explained to them that they fell asleep last night on the rock for a reason they can't remember. After locating the car, they all climbed in, took off their rings, and Josh took the wheel. The car looked normal, but upon closer inspection they found some Pokeuman tech, such as an overdrive that will let the car go to obnoxious speeds, as well as tinted windows that allow for Pokeumans to travel without rings.

"Alright guys, since I'm the only one that can drive, here are my rules. Don't touch the radio, don't mess with the lights, and don't leave garbage, ai'ight?" They all agreed, and they started driving. West took out the map and took the GPS that came with the car.

"Okay, let's see here...since we probably won't be able to drive all the way to Antarctica, we'll have to stop at a dock and take a boat. The nearest port is in Miami, Florida, where we take a boat to Ushuaia, Argentina, and then go on another boat to Antarctica."

"Ick. Sounds too expensive." Josh commented. "Got any different routs?"

"Well, we can drive all the way through central America to Argentina and take the boat there. We can park the car at the port there and come and get it after our first gear."

"Sounds a bit risky. No doubt Pokextinction will be looking for them, too."

"I know, but what choice do we have? We can't really use a car in Anty. But you are right. Maybe e can hide the car or something like that."

"I'm sure that being a Pokeuman car this baby would have one or two cloaking mechanisms. We'll have to see when we get there."

For the while, Josh didn't speak much, and he didn't turn on the radio, either, so Andy looked out at the scenery rushing by. As he looked at mountains and other cars swiftly traveling to his right and out of sight, he started feeling a bit tired. The next thing he knew, the car was pulling up to a hotel. He checked the clock: 6:36 PM

Holy Cow! It was just barely 7:30 earlier!

They slipped on their rings and walked out of the car. They had checked in to the hotel, and they went into their rooms. They closed all the blinds and locked the doors, and they took of their rings.

Andy was a bit disoriented. "Er...where are we?

Claire turned and looked at him. "We're in New Mexico. We are just about to enter Mexico, but we've decided to stop here for the night."

I slept for nearly eleven hours AND we're in New Mexico?!

They all got comfortable and they ordered dinner. They also watched some of the news, before they all got tired and went to sleep.

This went on for a few more days until they finally got to Ushuaia. They stopped at one last hotel before they went to the docks. They parked the car in a concealed area, and found an instruction manual about how to turn the car invisible. After doing so, they looked around until they finally found a boat going to Antarctica. They slipped on their language translators and walked up to the boat man.

"Excuse me." Andy said. Although he could hear his own voice, he could also hear the translated version being broadcasted to the man. The man seemed to only acknowledge the broadcasted language, and not the English spoken into the otherwise hidden translator. "I need a boat to Antarctica."

"A boat to Antarctica?" The man said. Andy could hear the original being spoken by the man, but it was nearly flushed out by the English translation that only Andy could hear. "You've come to the right place! We are going to leave soon. Please pay for your tickets." Josh patted Andy's shoulder with money most likely taken from his portable ATM.

Andy handed the wad of bills to the man. He took a moment to count them, and then handed the group a ticket each. "Done! Welcome aboard, and thank you for your payment!" When they got on board, they had been assigned a dorm, and was told that meals were included with the ticket, and they can eat whenever they want, so long as the kitchen is not closed.

At their dorm, they once again locked the doors and shut the blinds as they took off their rings.

"Alright." Josh said. "We're here. So what are we going to do now? We need a plan."

"Already got that!" West cried. "So, since it's going to be very cold, Josh may have a bit of trouble in Anty. Claire should have no problem with it, and Andy can use Blaze Kick, as long as it is safe to do so. Knowing this, Josh should stay on board until the location of the gear has been pinpointed, and Claire can stay outside the longest. Andy and I can resist the Ice, so me and Andy should go first."

Claire looked confused. "But if it's cold, shouldn't I go with Andy? I can warm him up, and I can stay outside the longest."

"True, but remember he's part steel. You'll have to tone your fire powers down, or he'll have to sacrifice his health to a full-blast fire-type move."

"Right...okay, I'll work on that. Thanks for telling!"

"Alright! Well, I'm sure we all agree on the plan, but..." West's stomach rumbled. "I sure am starving! I think they serve lunch at this time. Let's go eat!"
