Hurricane: Day 21, Part Two
It wasn't long before the police showed up.... Jackson had been bored, and looking through the scope of the gun he had taken, and spotted them a few miles away or so. "Um, Troy, I think we have company," He said. Cursing, we all shoved down our last bites of pancake, and ran around, grabbing our packs. I glanced at the wreckage of our car. No doubt, they would look through our burned Camaro for fingerprints.
"Evan, grab the fake ID's from the glove compartment in the car, and burn the car completely when your done," I said. Evan crawled through the back window, and tossed the ID's out, then he crawled out, and threw a few fireballs at the car. It exploded in a big mushroom cloud. I grabbed the extinguisher and sprayed out the flames. Tossing the extinguisher aside, I ran, grabbed the wolf/dog-monster-that-tried-to-eat-my-face, and yelled, "Let's go!" We all ran down a back-road. Chloë helped by grabbing us one by one and super-speeding us a few miles away. I shouldered my backpack. "Chloë, do you think you could super-speed us back to our apartment?" I asked.
She shook her head. "I would, but I have no idea where that is, and the GPS wouldn't be able to keep up with my speed. Even if it could, I'm really tired still, and I don't really have it in me."
I turned to Jackson. "Taxi?" I asked.
"Yeah," he said, "I'll have one pick us up here. Since we are over 6 or 7 miles from the building, nobody should be suspicious." He started his Iphone and dialed a number, then walked away chatting with somebody over the phone. I glanced at the sky. It looked like it was around noon or so right now. I found myself thinking about what I had seen on the TV at Denny's. I kept wondering what that golden light flooding throughout New York had been.
"Troy!" Jackson yelled, waving his hand in front my face. "Earth to Troy, come in."
I blinked, and looked at him. "What?" I said, Mildly annoyed.
"The cab's coming, he said he will be here in 5."
"Huh, kinda fast," I commented.
"He said he was in the area," Jackson said.
"What are we gonna do with the dog?" I asked. "We can't exactly ride in the taxi with an unconscious dog in our laps..."
"We can stick him in the trunk, I guess," Jackson said
"Guys, he's here," Chloë interrupted.
Sure enough, a SUV with the word TAXI plastered all over the side, was bouncing up the road towards us. It pulled up alongside us, and stopped. The window rolled down.
"You needed a ride?" A short guy in the front seat asked.
"Yeah, we do," Jackson said.
The short guy glanced at the dog in my arms.
"Oh, he just got tired from chasing squirrels all morning," I said quickly.
"Alright, put him in the back seat row."
We laid the wolf across the 3 seats in the back row, with our backpacks, and we sat together in the middle row. Jackson told him the address, and the Taxi rumbled off. Before even 10 minutes had passed, all four of us were already asleep...
