Hurricane: Day 20, Part Two
I ran like there was no tomorrow...I barreled down into the darkness of this extra-creepy Walmart, unable to see a thing in front of me, I just knew I had to keep running. Jackson was running with me, at my side. The beast chasing behind us was closing in. I could hear it's panting, and at this point, it was only a good 20 feet or so behind us. I turned a corner, and ran face first into a wall, and staggered back. Fumbling with panic, I grabbed my backpack, snatched the flashlight and one of the numerous Twix bars I had grabbed, and kept running. Jackson was a few feet in front of me. I kept running, then I slowed. Something was off. I could no longer hear the scraping and sliding or panting of the beast that had been behind me only seconds ago.
"Jackson, WAIT!" I screamed. Too late. The beast materialized right next to Jackson from out of no-where, and the beast disappeared out of sight. The next thing I knew, I heard snarling behind me. The beast leaped at me, and in pure terror, I fell backwards and kicked it over my head as it passed over me. It snarled and got up, more annoyed than injured. It two steps forward, and I scrambled backwards. Remembering the candy bar clutched in my right hand, I hurled it at the beast's mouth. While it was distracted by the tasty chocolate, I clicked on the flashlight. It looked like a very large, very overgrown wolf, almost the size of a truck. It was sleek and completely midnight pitch black, and only it's blue eyes were what made it visible in the dark. The wolf snapped up the Twix bar, and then started looking at be again. It took another two steps forward. Panicking, the lightning bolt symbol on my arm glowed weakly. I punched the wolf right in the snout, and an electric charge flew through it's body. It just sat on it's hind-quarters and blinked, almost as if to say, was that all you got? It blinked again, and started stalking towards me again. It snarled, and stepped forward, baring it's teeth. That's when I heard, "DUCK!" from Jackson's voice. Hanging from a rope he had somehow managed to attach to a ceiling light far above, was Jackson. Pistol-in-hand, I took him at his word and ducked. He fired 3 times, all 3 hitting the wolf in the head. And yet, all three sparked off it's fur.
I heard Jackson curse under his breath.
"Troy, some lightning and explosions and stuff would be helpful right now," Jackson yelled.
"I'm working on it!" I yelled back. I thrust my hand to the roof, but I was too panicked to focus clearly. The wolf stepped forward, and I waited to meet my doom...
